An In-Depth Review of Tyson Foods
Beacon College | Spring 2025 | BUS 2600 Principles of Management
PROJECT OVERVIEW: This comprehensive analysis evaluates Tyson Foods' management practices, focusing on its leadership, organizational structure, strategic objectives, and ethical challenges. Founded with the mission to "feed the world like family," Tyson Foods has evolved into one of the largest food producers in the U.S., employing a strategy centered around fortifying its foundation, building strong brands, and expanding globally.

The leadership team, led by CEO Donnie King and Chairman John Tyson, demonstrates servant, transformational, and charismatic leadership styles. Under their guidance, Tyson Foods has excelled in manufacturing and distribution, processing millions of birds weekly while maintaining a strong national and international presence. However, despite its operational success, the company faces significant ethical concerns, including allegations of child labor, product recalls, and labor disputes, all of which have exposed deficiencies in its ethical governance and quality control measures.

Tyson’s competitive advantages lie in its robust manufacturing capacity and diverse brand portfolio, but its legal and ethical challenges have hindered its ability to maintain complete consumer and stakeholder trust. To secure its position as an industry leader moving forward, Tyson Foods must prioritize enhancing its ethical standards, improving food safety protocols, and fostering a more transparent and accountable corporate culture.

Addressing these critical issues will restore trust in Tyson Foods and enable the company to sustain long-term growth and competitive success. A commitment to ethical leadership, operational efficiency, and innovation is essential for ensuring the company’s future in an increasingly complex and competitive global market.
Case Study on Sara Smith
Beacon College | Fall 2023 | BUS 3318 Business Communication
PROJECT OVERVIEW: This project aimed to address performance challenges with Sara Smith, a dedicated part-time employee, by enhancing her work efficiency, reducing cell phone usage, and improving the balance of customer interactions. The objective was to optimize customer service at Macy's Department Store. Despite her strong work ethic, Sara needed guidance to meet performance expectations. I conducted a one-on-one meeting with her, providing clear feedback and offering time management tools and customer service training for improvement. I developed a meeting agenda, action plan, and follow-up strategy to track her progress. The immediate outcome was clear expectations and improved communication, focusing on measurable improvements in efficiency and customer satisfaction. This experience enhanced my ability to give effective feedback and reinforced the importance of follow-up. Moving forward, I would incorporate more specific performance metrics to ensure measurable, impactful results.
